Tokaji aszú - Gróf Degenfeld Wine Estate

In 1994, based on traditions harking back over one hundred and fifty years, the Gróf Degenfeld family revived their estate in Hegyalja, where they make wines combining environmentally aware cultivation and tradition. Their 35-hectare vineyards are located between Mád and Tarcal. Since 2009, they have pursued controlled, organic farming with the aim of preserving the balance between the grapevines and nature. Their main ambition is to promote the Tokaj Wine Region and its enormous potential, along with sustainable viticulture. They make dry wines and sweet wine specialties from the region’s three leading grape varieties: furmint, hárslevelű and sárgamuskotály.

Category-winner wine: Tokaji Aszú 6 puttonyos 2017

This tokaji aszú is special because a large part (85%) of it is not furmint but hárslevelű. Woody, spicy notes are complemented by citrus fruit in its nose. Candied tropical fruit are discernible in its palate, with a finish of honeycomb toffee and sweet tangerine. It is characterised by rich flavours and a long aging potential.
