Rosé wines - Gál Vineyard and Winery
Csaba Gál and his wife, Éva Gálné Dignisz (Winemaker of the Year, 2013) have been dealing with grape growing and winemaking for more than thirty years, and in recent years their children have also joined them. Their vineyards – spread across 88 hectares on Csepel Island’s Szigetcsép, Szigetszentmárton and Szigetújfalu villages – provide the grapes for the winery built in 2004 and located in Szigetcsép. Out of all the vineyards, 12 hectares are new plantations from 2020, and 10 hectares lie on the hills of Lesencefalu in the Balaton Uplands. In the quality range of varieties, riesling, olaszrizling, chardonnay, pinot gris, ezerjó, cserszegi fűszeres, kékfrankos, cabernet sauvignon and pinot noir are dominant.
Category-winner wine: Gál Kékfrankos Rosé 2019
Nice, intense colour and a shade characteristic to the variety is the first impression, followed by an “explosion of scents”, which is complex, fresh, tasty and enchantingly nice at the same time. The flavour still mediates the fresh seduction of grapes with nice acids, paired with a feeling of fullness that conforms to the rest of the ingredients. The lightness of the rosé is achieved by selecting the best grapes, the strict application of reductive technology and the preservation of the carbon dioxide that is produced during fermentation. It is characterised by fresh fruitiness: an equal role is attached to both acids and aromas. Best consumed at 9-11 °C.
