Kadarka - Németh János Winery
This family winery has its origin in the Iván Valley in Szekszárd and boasts a tradition that goes back several generations, yet it is one of the youngest and most dynamically growing Szekszárd wineries, able to continuously renew itself. In spite of his young age, this year marks the 22nd harvest for winemaker Janó Németh. Farming on more than 10 hectares, depending on the vintage, they make approximately 50,000 bottles of wine, emphasising the advantages and opportunities of their terroir. They uphold this philosophy throughout the processing of the grapes, be it kadarka, kékfrankos, white grapes or any other full-bodied global variety. Their motto: “Simply, from the vineyard.” They are especially proud of the fact that in the 2019 Wine of the House of Parliament competition, they were the winners of the kadarka category.
Category-winner wine: Szekszárdi Kadarka 2018
The 2018 Kadarka is harvested from the Gyűszű and Iván Valleys in Szekszárd, carefully picked by hand, and fermented in an open tub, spontaneously. The 8-10-day fermentation is followed by 10 months of reductive ageing, after which the wine is bottled. The 2018 harvest provided excellent ingredients: healthy, beautiful and mature grapes were processed. Owing to reductive ageing, they were able to perfectly conserve the varietal character of kadarka, the fruitiness and the elegance.
